Water Cycle
In A Baggie!

This fun and easy experiment demonstrates evaporation, condensation, and precipitation in action.

Together, these are known as The Water Cycle, a natural water filtration and movement process happening every day, all around us!

Making a Water Cycle in a Baggie!

Materials

  • Clear resealable plastic bag

  • Water (¼ cup)

  • Permanent marker

  • Food coloring (optional)

  • Tape

Procedure

  1. Turn your resealable bag so it has a corner at the top and the bottom. Use your permanent marker to draw a simple water cycle diagram on your resealable bag. Add waves or a puddle at the bottom left corner to represent water and clouds near the top right.

  2. Pour about ¼ cup of water into the bag. If you want to add some color, a drop of food coloring works great here.

  3. Put your straw halfway into the bag and close the seal around it. Blow air into the bag and then quickly seal the air inside.

  4. Tape your model water cycle to a sunny window and observe the evaporation, condensation, and precipitation!
